My Rates -
I
ask for $8.50 an hour for most tasks that cannot be pinned down to an exact
amount of time such as setting intonation, adjusting action, or dressing
sharp frets. Work such as pickup replacement, electronics repair or upgrades
(coil cut, phase, alternate tone, custom switching, etc.) depend on the
time involved. Most anything can be done in an hour or two. Work such as
a complete re-wire or other extensive options can often be performed in
this time fame but sometimes take a little longer. By the same token if
all that needs to be done is re-mount a pot and reconnect a broken wire
this can be done quite quickly and easily in which case I would want no
more than $4.25. I do not want to get rich off the poor, just put some
taters in my fridge, that's all.
.
Some
of the flat-rate work I do includes setting intonation at $5.00, truss
rod adjustments at $5.00 (including second adjustment later if needed),
string change at $4.50 plus the cost of strings or your strings, fret dressing
at $7.00, pickup height and saddle height (action height) adjustments $5.50
with the exception of Floyd style or other trems that have sliding or shimmed
saddles in which case it is $9.50 due to the additional time it takes,
and complete setups including all of the above at $18.50 (except for the
Floyd thing). Be sure to go over the "Guitar Setups and Maintenance", "Guitar
Upgrades", and "Guitar Repairs" sections for more information. It cost's
nothing to discuss your needs and I have no interest in selling you the
farm if all you need is a bale of hay. Been there and been the victim myself
many years ago. I would much prefer you return later with more work, happy
with the work that was done previously. That is just common cents (sense)
that always escapes big business.
.
As
I mention in my About Me page I prefer to work person to person. In particular
when the work involves action, modifications, or anything else that affects
the feel, sound, and performance of the guitar. Nothing I do is rocket
science, although experience plays an important part. I have done work
for players into everything from Jazz to Metal, and I do my best to make
sure the work is done to my client's satisfaction. This is why I prefer
the client is there to test and offer input. Everyone's playing style and
preference is different, and unlike the megastores I do not expect anyone
to accept or subscribe to my interpretation. |
