Here's
the Flagship of the bunch! I got this in '84 from another of those nearly
extinct creatures: The small guitar shop. The frets were originally almost
.050" tall but I have played it so much that they are now less than .025"
and I doubt I can do another re-crown. I guess I should also add that most
of it's life it was strung with .008 Ultra lights which should give you
some idea how much it was played! I will most likely re-fret it when I
get my shop back up to 100%. This baby equals, if not exceeds the quality
and playability of any Les Paul I have ever owned or picked up and played!
I have only seen one nicer PE and that was a PE-Supra a guy from England
was selling on ebay. The bridge pickup is an ORIGINAL Bill Lawrence (not
Stew-Mac) and the neck once again is the original bridge pickup. The reason
I do this is there is too much output difference between the aftermarket
bridge pickup and the original neck pickup. The hotter original bridge
pickup in the neck position helps balance the output.
Some
time back not long after I was forced into semi-retirement due to health
issues I found myself penniless at Christmas time. It was the first time
I could not get somthing for my Wife. I could have used her money, which
was our only source of income but somehow that seemed wrong to me. I had
planned a re-fret for this one but instead decided to give it to her that
Christmas. No, she didn't play, and it was nothing special in her eyes.
However, she knew it iwas my most precious possesion equalled only by my
bike. When I gave it to her it told her she was more important than both
bike and guitars. |
