Guitar Services (and my guitars)-
I
have been playing and fooling around with guitars for better than 32 years
now, and one thing that has always chafed my butt is the fact that the
music industry is geared to rape the artist, the very source of the industry
to begin with. About 20 years ago, after having to forego desperately needed
maintenance and repairs simpy for the fact that I could not afford it I
set out to learn how to do these things myself. I did not go to some snot-nosed
school or take classes at the community college. I learned form REAL luthiers.
REAL techs. Some of which did work for or worked directly for national
acts. They don't teach you the cool stuff in shcools.
.
Over
the years I have worked for several small shops and done work for both
local talent as well as well known names who out of respect for their privacy
will remain nameless. The shops I worked for were the small Mom and Pop
type, a creature that is quickly becoming extinct any more. I had once
inquired about filling a position at Mars Music in the area but was told
they only hire from the schools and I did not qualify. I can see now why
they went out of business. Afterward I couldn't tell you how many of thier
"luthier's" screw ups my clients had me correct. Poorly crowned frets,
improperly wired electronics, intonation that was WAAAY off, and action
that only a slide player could appreciate. And what was payed for these
"services" was just as appalling.
.
Most
of the work I do now is on a person to person basis. None of this drop
it off for a faceless unknown to work on. The rates I ask for are enough
for me to buy an occasoinal tool and put a few groceries in the fridge.
I do not have to pay for overhead, fancy advertising, or franchise fees.
I prefer to work with folks who cannot afford that $10,000 vintage Gibson,
Relic Strat, or one of Poor Rich Snot's overpriced junk, but the average
joe just trying to keep their favorite axe(s) playing and sounding good.
I outline only some of the services and work I can provide here in these
pages. I encourage you to contact me with your needs, thoughts, and ideas.
It doesn't cost a penny to discuss these things, and could save quite a
few pennies in the process. |
