Carvin V220 Neck-Thru Flying Star
One
more pawn shop special, this guy hung there for going on a year before
they were willing to play my song, if you know what I mean. They were playing
my album but took them a while to get down to my song. It needed electronics
work and it was filthy so it went from $565 to $300 in the course of about
9 months until it came home with me. Both pickups had dead coils (tampering
was evident) so I dug through my parts pile and found a Duncan lynch Screaming
Demon for the neck and dropped my favorite, the Duncan Distortion in the
bridge. The mini toggles put the pickups in either series or parallel as
opposed to the original HB or SC modes. This thing has some mass! It easily
falls into the same class as the heaviest LPs. Super low action, a fast
slender neck, and bite to die for makes this a shredder and a half. Somehow
I can't picture any of the pretty "Hair Band" axe slingers holding this
heavy machine on their shoulder for an entire gig!
It
is now owned by the lead guitarist of Reigning
Heir, and he has been putting it to great use! The guitar can be heard
in the track "Warning" on their Music page. |
