Finally
naked with parts spread out and in buckets I had a better idea of what
was useable and what was crapola. Hmmmm. Can I use the 74 hardtail?

Either
they rode this thing through the La Brea tar pits or ran the thing on crude
oil. The head was fubar with a broken plug rusted solid. The jugs were
wollowed out from piston slap and not useable without re-boring and the
pistons were badly pitted from pre-ignition and running lean. Another top
end was in order. Luckily I happend to cruise Craig's List and caught a
shop owner dumping a bunch of partial 750 engines and ended up with a good
head, jugs, and pistons. Fortunately the cam and towers were still good
in the turd.
